India’s relations with Japan continue to strengthen each year, with the Japan-India Science Forum serving as a key platform for collaboration between university leaders from both nations. Since its inception in Kyoto (2022), followed by Tokyo (2023) and Delhi (2024), the forum has fostered deep academic ties. IIT Hyderabad (IITH) played a pivotal role last year, presenting on behalf of India and hosting 20 University Presidents/Vice Presidents on October 21, 2024. This year, IITH will host the 2025 edition on November 15, welcoming 20-30 Presidents of Japanese Universities. IITH’s engagement has also led to the launch of the Joint Supervision Program by JST, enabling Indian PhD students to conduct year-long research in Japan while their Indian supervisors visit for a month. With 55 students selected in 2024 (including 20 from IITH) and 300 planned for 2025, IITH has been chosen as a hub for student selection and joint Indo-Japanese startup collaborations. Additionally, several Japanese industries have shown interest in setting up joint research centres with IITH, further strengthening the India-Japan academic and industrial partnership.
