All the departments (except Engineering Science) at IITH offer PhD program. The eligibility criteria for PhD admission in the engineering departments is a Masters degree. If you think you are an exceptionally good candidate, you can apply for a direct PhD after B.Tech./B.E. with valid GATE score. IITH typically admits students to the PhD program twice a year. IITH do not make newspaper advertisements regarding admission and the aspirants are requested to follow our website for admission notification. Typically the notification comes out in the month of Nov and in the month of April. The applications received are screened by the individual departments and the successful applicants will be called for a written test and interview. The financial assistance for the PhD program under MoE (Ministry of Education) category across all departments is 5 years.
IITH has a joint Ph.D program with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. All first year Ph.D students are eligible for admission to the joint Ph.D program, however, the selection is based on faculty recommendation and performance in the interview. Under this program the selected students get to spend one year at SUT for doing research. The selected students will be jointly guided by an IITH faculty member and an SUT faculty.
